THE FIRST ISSUE: November 1983, editor Brian Zelley

It was the beginning of the 1983/1984 boxing season, so the debut issue
did not have a lot of current activity, but it opened the door for the
coaches' Rep to give his opening address to the members of the BCABA.
In summary, Dave Thompson said, "he was honoured to be  the 
'coaches representative' to the BCABA."

At the start of the season, the following were elected to the Board:
George Armson, Bill Long, William Wescott, Ron Inglis, 
Shirley Knopp, Bob Decker, Bert Lowes, Glynn jones,
Dave Thompson and Brian Zelley.  

Boxing Reports:

The only tournament that could be reported at this early stage in the boxing season
was the Senior and Intermediate Novice Boxing Tournament staged 
on October 22, 1983.   The best intermediate boxer was JASON TROTTIER
and the best senior boxer was ISAAC GOCK.

Ring officials:
Bert Lowes, Fred Fuller, Sid Knopp,  Rudy Bianco, Larry Krangle, Jack Mellor, 
Brian Zelley, Lindy Lindmoser, Bill Gurvich, Al Young and Vic Murdoch.
Timekeeper: George Armson, Glovers: Tommy Yule and Gordon Miller,
Trophies: Glynn Jones, Registration: Shirley Knopp and Marg O'Reilly,
Medical: Dr. Herb Dumont and Security: Bill Long

Champions:
Bob Streeves, Jason Trottier, Todd Hatley, Vince Schryver, Brett Kollen,
Terry Dermott, Mark Smith, Isaac Gock, Mike Kennedy, Peter Martin,
Werner Kirschner and Jim Cuberland.


The Shamrock Boxing Club show:

Bob Decker's Shamrock Boxing club hosted a six bout card
It was expected to be bigger but a tragedy caused a team
from Bremerton to default when coach Cal Gilbert was killed
in a traffic accident.

The Boxers at the Shamrock show:

Alan Brown, Kevin Archer, Jason Adair, Alan Pringle,
Travis Beltrame, Curtis Gray, Mike Painter, E. Bolo,
Aaron Jensen, Tonka Young, Manual Sobral, and Eddie Lee.

Flashback and Golden Memories:

Highlighted in the flashbacks section was the 1960                                                        BC Golden Gloves tournament with the Golden Boy being
Alan Curtis, the golden boy runner-up was Bill Adams, and the 

best bout was: Skimp Williams vs Frank Jordison.

*Also highlighted was Jimmy Symes award winners from
the late Sixties to 1982 and included photos of some of the
boxers including Chris Ius, Mickey Griffin, Cliff Ballendine,
John Herman and Laurie Mann.
