Mike Caird, boxer and builder



The MIKE CAIRD boxing story: By Brian Zelley

Mike was an amateur boxer until 1964 and was a 1963 BC Golden Gloves
Champion.  After boxing, Mike would turn to coaching.  In 1974, Ian Weir.
Brian Zelley and Dan Wright would join up with Mike to revive boxing
in Victoria.

with a story by Patty Pitts in the "Victorian".in picture are
Ian Weir - Mike Caird - Brian Zelley.  After that photo, the Victoria Boxing Club rejoined the
London Boxing Club.  In 1976, Mike, Brian and boxing commissioner received
appreciation certificates from the BC Amateur Boxing Association under the direction of
president Walter Boyce.




In August 1976, the Victoria Athletic Association replaced the London Boxing club.
For the boxing program coaches were Mke Caird, Brian Zelley and Lou Bujdose.Lu would go on to form the Jaycees Boxing Club. During most of the eighties, Caird would be inactive in boxing.
But, after 1990 Caird would get back into boxing that reached a climax with  boxer Donnie Orr getting picked for the 2000 Olympics.





In 2009, Caird was inducted into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame.
