The MIKE CAIRD boxing story: By Brian Zelley Mike was an amateur boxer until 1964 and was a 1963 BC Golden Gloves Champion.  After boxing, Mike would turn to coaching.  In 1974, Ian Weir. Brian Zelley and Dan Wright would join up with Mike to revive boxing in Victoria. Revival of Boxing in Victoria 1974: Photo, courtesy of the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame was published November 22, 1974 with a story by Patty Pitts in the "Victorian".in picture are Ian Weir - Mike Caird - Brian Zelley.  After that photo, the Victoria Boxing Club rejoined the London Boxing Club.  In 1976, Mike, Brian and boxing commissioner received appreciation certificates from the BC Amateur Boxing Association under the direction of president Walter Boyce. In August 1976, the Victoria Athletic Association replaced the London Boxing club. THE EARLY YEARS: 1963 to 1968 *The story begins in September 1963 with the Nepper family of Nanaimo. George Nepper decided to form a boxing club in 1963 and it was named after the Newcastle Hotel as the NEWCASTLE BOXING CLUB.                2018 BCABHOF Inductees Brian Zelley VS Clarke McLellan                                      DONNIE ORR the 2000 Olympics 2021 VIBHoF Inductees    From about 28 names to consider the boxing supporters primarily focused on the five selected.  Each Inductee have years of experience. And each one are also inductees of the British Columbia Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame established in 2010,  It is hoped the Vancouver Island Boxing Hall of Fame will continue to operate for many years to come.  Also, there is hope that some Island clubs and events will be selected in 2022 or later.
