From the pages of the newspaper: by Brian Zelley January 25, 1982 "Times-Colonist" I never expected to see my name on the front page of a daily paper, but there it was on January 25, 1982 which was 18 months before I would become the news director of the British Columbia  Amateur Boxing Association.  The bit on the front page would trace to the inside editorial by sports editor  Jim Reid of the "Times - Colonist". AT THE CROSSROADS: BETWEEN "He Tin Kis" and "The Nanaimo Boxing Club" in The Summer of '71 by brian Zelley *It was the Summer of '71  and one  journey was coming  to an end  in Ucluelet, BC, and  an another   would begin. *Of course, I had no idea of where we would have the gym but  one weekend, I was asked by Myrt Saxton, the head of the project to visit with the rec director in Nanaimo to discuss  park issues, so I told her about some of our plans and she told me who to contact that could  deal with both issues.  Deal with the end of one project, and improve planning with the other plan of starting  a revival of boxing in Nanaimo, BC. BRIAN'S BOXING PHOTO PARADE The followig is a series of photos that cover many years from 1964 to 2009. the first photo is my last  official bout that took place in Nanaimo in 1973 with Clark MacLellan who would become a boxing coach and a ring official. A Collection of photos covering various years such as 1973, 1967, 1966,  and 1972 The 1966 pphoto is the bottom  left as I was preparing for a  match against Del Deugau of the Vancouver Firefighters. For that bout, I was named the best boxer, but Del went on to win the 1967 Seattle Golden Gloves. 1983 BC WINTER GAMES, Revelstoke * There was no detailed story in any BC boxing news as it took place February 23 - 27, 1983, I did a small piece on the boxers from Vancouver Island for the "Vancouver Island Amateur Boxing News"  but no great detail. Recently found the agenda with all the names of boxers, coaches, officials and even substitute boxer if necessary
